Contract Marriage: Emperor CEO's Secretary Wife

Chapter 149 - His Personality

Chapter 149 - His Personality

Xiu Mei continued convincing Lu Chen on getting help from her father. After all, it is her father who knows politics way better than anyone in their family. Then her second brother comes second.

Their conversation was immediately cut off by the sound of Xiu Mei’s phone. Her attention darted to her phone and saw her assistant’s name flashing on the mobile screen.

Ah! She almost forgot. She’s supposed to be working right now in resolving the data leak issue.

She was too focused on Lu Chen and Lu Qiang’s issue that she completely forgot the company issue that she should be prioritizing right now.

She lightly slapped her forehead. But then something hit her.

She narrowed her eyes at the man in front of her. Hey... isn’t this guy supposed to be the one who should be worrying the most right now?

He’s acting as if he wasn’t the president and CEO of the Lu Corporation ah. Or did he forget his own position?

Xiu Mei rang for the sixth time cutting her train of thoughts. She immediately picked up her phone and answered.

"Hello?"

"Ms.Xiu, I’ve already sent the results of the initial investigation on your email."

"Good. Then I’ll get back to you once I finish reading it. How is everything on your side?"

"Mr. Lu Shao and I are currently suppressing the news. The official statement we released slightly eased the public but we would need to release another official statement very soon."

"I’ll work on that with the other department. For now, monitor all movements across all branches and the stock market. I need everything on the report this week so we can take the necessary actions."

"I will take note of that."

"Okay. Then get back to me if you get any significant results in the investigation then."

Xiu Mei dropped the call and returned to her laptop. She opened the inbox and swiftly read the initial report regarding who leaked the data.

As she expected, it is the work of someone from within the company. From the very beginning, Xiu Mei was already suspecting all the employees involved and who knew about the data breach. But the number of suspects was too high and they needed to narrow them down first.

Her assistant narrowed down the list by ten people. It was still a lot but it’s way better than before. She even saw Asst. Marketing Director and the Planning Director on the list.

Xiu Mei paused. Her eyes darted to the Planning Director’s name on the list.

...Why is he on the list?

She can recall calling for an emergency meeting with the relevant Directors involved on the issue. But she was pretty sure that the Planning Director wasn’t included in that meeting.

As far as anyone’s concerned, she strictly ordered the people who are aware of the data breach to not let it spread to other people. Was someone that loose-lip in some teams?

"How is it?" Lu Chen asked.

When he asked, the first thought that Xiu Mei thought was: Does he finally remember now that he’s the president?

She didn’t speak aloud of her thoughts. Instead, she scooted closer to Lu Chen then shifted her laptop to his direction so she could read the content.

"What about Lu Shao?"

"He is still suppressing the news. Do we pull him out and make him handle the investigation?"

"Yeah, have him spearhead the investigation instead. We need a shorter turnaround time this time since this case is quite sensitive."

"Okay. I’ll message him that."

She briefly pulled out her phone and sent a short message to Lu Shao.

"What about the official statement for release later? Do we have to hold that as well?"

"Why?"

"Because the real investigation report was that the data breach was done by one of our employees? Who knows if we reveal our previous report and then, later on, the true report gets revealed to the public. That would be too problematic, no?"

"But that would only be possible if Yu Ming Xi or anyone from his people reveals that right?"

Xiu Mei paused to look at Lu Chen in confusion. His words sounded like he was onto something?

"...Yeah." She nodded hesitantly. "That’s why that would be a problem for us right?"

"But I don’t think Yu Ming Xi would be interested to reveal that to the world. Do you know why?"

Xiu Mei stopped to think.

Why would Yu Ming Xi not reveal it to the public? It’s a really good chess piece, right? Especially if he’s aiming to take down the power of Lu Chen in the business industry. Wouldn’t that be a great spectacle for him to watch?

Not that she was implying that she wants to see that ah. She doesn’t want to lose her job anytime soon.

But since Lu Chen is kinda implying that Yu Ming Xi isn’t interested in revealing that to the press, then why?

If his goal is not to suppress and take down the Lu Corporation then... is it just a warning?

That kinda feels right too. Since the damage done wasn’t exactly that big at all. It was akin to a small dent on their image that’s still pretty fixable.

What’s Yu Ming Xi’s goal?

Xiu Mei thought hard about it. She recalled all the news she read about the Prime Minister’s younger brother. And then the handful of times she saw him in the parties she attended before.

Just like any other politician, at first glance, he looks like a good person and docile. She knew about the donations and charities he did and he was commonly seen helping the citizens when there were disasters and similar events.

Yu Ming Xi has a very good image in public. He has quite a good resume too as if he was planning to...ah.

Xiu Mei swiftly turned her head towards Lu Chen again. She looked at him with wide eyes as if she was asking if what she was thinking was the right reason.

"Figured it out?" Lu Chen chuckled when he saw that look on her face.

"Kinda... is it because of his personality?"

It was the only answer that she could draw out as of the moment.

Just like what she realized, Yu Ming Xi is a person who has a very good resume. He likes to achieve big things that would surely leave mark on people. Meaning, he’s proud of aiming and achieving big goals.

Then, it must be the same with his secret activities. A man who likes leaving his mark on people, even if in secret, he would still aim for that same goal when he does illegal stuff. His name may not be on it, but he would surely want it to be big enough to be remembered. Or something that he could add on his grandiose list of activities.

Lu Chen proudly smiled at his wife. His wife is so intelligent ah. He only implied that Yu Ming Xi does not have the intention to reveal it and she already figured it out. She didn’t even ask for another hint at all.

"Yes. I’ve been watching his activities in secret for quite a while and he is definitely akin to a grand performer. He likes to go big and he finds fun on that. In the underground city, he would sometimes mingle with some people there and he likes to plaster his name in some of the famous activities there."

"For real? He’s that rash there?"

"What happens in the underground city, stays in the underground city is what they like to say there."

"Is that a rule?"

"Not exactly. But it is something that holds back some people there especially if you have enemies. It’s something like a line that they shouldn’t cross else, it’s chaos both in the underground and here."

"But is Yu Ming Xi always involved in underground activities?"

"Not that much. He likes a wider audience so he likes to go public on his activities. Otherwise, he’ll trample on some companies or people that target him."

Xiu Mei’s eyes twitched. Hearing that now, it feels like Yu Ming Xi is somehow of narcissistic. If he likes big audiences and to leave a mark, then surely, he’s the type to enjoy receiving praises.

"Based on that, the reason you thought that he wouldn’t reveal his move on Lu Corporation because the attack isn’t big and grand enough to be added on his grandiose resume huh?" Xiu Mei concluded from their conversation.

"Exactly."

"He sounds like a creepy guy." She hugged her arms and felt a cold chill on her spine. "If he’s that bad, wouldn’t that be enough to be diagnosed with a severe mental problem instead?"

Lu Chen almost laughed at how she described that person. Is she implying that he is crazy enough to be put on a mental institution?

Though it’s not like she’s wrong though. He very much agrees with her on that one.
