Cultivation Through Artifacts

Chapter 289 - Challenged By A... Weapon?

The weapon before Khal was by no means unique, or at least not by the standards of his previous world.

It was a scythe with a much smaller size, akin to a chained sickle but without the chains.

Its design, on the other hand, was also rather eye-catching. The weapon's razor-sharp savagely shaped edge was wrapped in a shining golden cluster, while the color became darker toward the bottom of its handle that seemed comfortable to the touch even just by a glance.

"Hm?"

As Khal picked up the weapon and inspected it from closer, he noticed that on the area where he held the weapon, just below his fingertips, several small buttons were placed that could be pushed.

'A hybrid weapon?' Khal recognized the design as his Devil Fangs worked the same way. However, when he tried to push the button, strangely nothing happened which confused him. It felt like the buttons were stuck.

[Interesting. I had never seen a man-made Spiritual Weapon before.]

'So this was made by someone from the Higher Realms?'

[Yes.]

Nova replied affirmatively and continued.

[Although you don't know this, Spiritual Weapons are occasionally not made by others. They are born through special, but natural means where they consume the essence from their surroundings, forming their own consciousness over time which can be either a few decades or several centuries.]

[Of course, the longer a weapon forms its own consciousness, the stronger the weapon will become in the end.]

[However, a Spiritual Weapon that was not born through natural means and was created by hands and was bestowed a consciousness... I have never seen bit heard about such a thing before.]

Khal listened to Nova's explanation in silence and once Nova finished talking he raised a brow and asked, 'So, does a Spiritual Weapon that is born naturally has more potential to this one?'

Nova remained silent, seemingly in deep thought before he started to speak.

[As far as I can sense it, this Spiritual Weapon is no different than the rest, so I think it's worth a try at least.]

'I see... Then I will give it a shot.' thought Khal, but deep inside he didn't have much hope for success.

Not only did he try his luck over more than several hundred Spiritual Weapons since he was inside Moon Temple, but this weapon also gave him a mixture of weird sensations that the rest never gave him. It made him somewhat uncomfortable but at the same time strangely comfortable too!

'Let's see. If there is any god above, please bless me and let me obtain this weapon.' Khal raised his head toward the sky before taking a deep breath and pouring a bit of his essence into the weapon.

BAM!

'...'

Khal watched as his Essence was dispersed into the air, obviously showing that he failed once again.

And to make matters worse, at the very same moment he failed, in the close distance, Jas stood motionlessly with his gaze fixed on a pair of white glows, that floated before his face before they flashed and attached themselves onto his hand.

'Fuck it! Am I really this unlucky or what!?' Khal became angry and was about to smash the weapon in his hand onto the ground, before the sickle in his hand flashed and flew high up onto the air, its edge pointing at Khal with an eerie aura.

'What is happening here?' Khal frowned when he saw this sight, confused deeply.

[Get ready to fight. It has challenged you.]

'It has challenged me? What?'

[Yes, it wants to fight you. Although it has rejected you for the first time it still sees potential inside you so it wants to see what you are capable of. If you can beat it, there is a very high chance you will earn approval and will become your weapon willingly! If I were you I wouldn't waste such a rare opportunity.]

Khal felt shocked. A weapon wanted to fight him? But can he win against a weapon? It was not a cultivator neither a beast, so except for destroying it completely he saw no solution that could help him beat it.

[You don't need to win. Just show what you can do and the rest will be decided by it.]

'If you say so...' Khal sighed and summoned his Devil Fangs. Activating his Heaven's Eyes, Khal didn't waste any more time and swung his fan twice, causing the surroundings around the scythe to explode.

BOOOM!

Whoosh!

"!?"

Clang!

Using his fan, Khal deflected the weapon's attack just in time before it could have pierced his forehead and jumped backward.

'Fast!' Khal felt the back of his palm slowly getting wet from nervousness, thus tightening his grip, and took a deep breath to calm himself down.

Although the scythe moved fast even below his Heaven's Eyes, it was not as fast as the Moonlight Rabbit. He knew he had a high chance for victory if he didn't lose concentration.

Jas noticed the situation appeared next to Khal and was ready to use his newly acquired gloves, but Khal stopped him just in time.

"Please stay back. It's mine."

Raising his brow, Jas was surprised by Khal's request, but as he knew he was not the type of guy who would do something recklessly and without a reason, he knew it was fine to let him fight alone and step back. However, just in case if anything unexpected would happen, he made sure to watch the fight with raised guard and sharp senses from a close but safe distance and help Khal if he had to.

Khal nodded seeing that Jas stepped back and fixed his gaze back at the floating weapon in the air. It seemed it waited for Khal on purpose to finish talking.

'At least it knows the importance of fair play.' Khal smiled and after taking a deep breath he channeled his essence into his legs and took a step forward.

However, even though it was just a single step, Khal traveled a bit less than a hundred meters in a flash and appeared before the weapon, while swinging his crimson-covered weapon horizontally, drawing a beautiful crimson arc in the air.

Swish

KA-BOOOM!

The two weapons collided with each other, sending a powerful ripple throughout the air that shook the whole building while sparks flew everywhere akin to a firework!
